Chronic sinusitis is a common affliction that affects an estimated 37 million Americans each year. The condition is marked by inflammation of the sinuses that blocks the nasal passages, causing chronic infections. Symptoms include nasal congestion, sinus pain and pressure, loss of smell and taste, nasal discharge, headache, fatigue and depression. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Medications may provide temporary relief, but their effectiveness over the long term is not very impressive, prompting many patients to turn to surgery that involves enlarging the sinus cavities responsible for drainage. While sinus surgery is effective at relieving symptoms, a large number of patients contend with recurrent sinus infections within a year. At that point they may opt for follow-up surgery, and the process often repeats itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
