It’s perfectly natural to develop the signs of living an expressive life in the form of wrinkles around the eyes. However, for some people, they can cause feelings of self-consciousness. If you want to reduce the appearance of eye wrinkles, under-eye hallows and damage caused by sun exposure, there are solutions available.

Below is an overview of common cosmetic eye procedures. It’s important to consider your options carefully and talk over your goals with a cosmetic surgeon before getting a procedure, but this might help you get the conversation started.

Fillers

Under eye filler, also known as injectable hyaluronic acid, replaces or restores volume in under-eye hollows. This can make the eyes appear less sunken. Filler is injected under the eye to fill in the tear trough, which may be caused by a pad of fat bulging above it.

The results of fillers are visible right away, but it may take a couple of weeks for the products to completely settle in. It is usually performed in one session, though your physician may recommend two. Results typically last at least a year.

Botox

Botox is used to target frown lines and crow’s feet. The injections contain small amounts of the botulism toxin, which works by temporarily paralyzing the muscles under the skin, making it harder for the muscle to contract that creates the lines. Botox can also be used to elevate the eyebrows, which lifts the skin of the upper eyelid and opens the eyes.

Botox takes time to settle in, so results may not be apparent for three to five days after the injection, though it may take up to two weeks. Results also vary depending on the depth of the wrinkles, so if your lines are pronounced, they may not go away entirely. After three months, about 90% has worn off.

Lasers

Ablative lasers like the CO2 laser use high levels of energy to treat fine lines and wrinkles, tighten sagging skin and eliminate age spots. It works by removing upper layers of skin one at a time, so that it heals smoother and firmer. Results can vary, but typically it only takes one to two sessions to see results, which last around two years.
